Excavating Shoreditch Park

Welcome to the home page for 2009's Shared Learning Project (SLP)between the London Archaeological Archive & Research Centre (LAARC) and the University of the Third Age (U3A).
This year's SLP focuses on the material from Shoreditch Park, Hackney, which was excavated by the Museum of London as part of a community project in 2005.
Over 10 sessions, volunteers will work with both a range of materials and finds from the site, learning archaeological archiving techniques by packing, organising and improving the conditions within the site's archive. The work will include both registered and general finds and end with research presentations based on their experience.
The SLP forms part of the LAARC Volunteer Inclusion Programme, (VIP) now in its 4th project, which focuses on reorganising and improving the storage of the collections with the aim of created space for future archives, whilst improving the accessibility of past deposits.
This site intends to keep track of their progress and evaluate the project with comments from participants, staff and visitors to the site.

Use the navigation panel on the left or click on a blue word link to find out more about the site, the weekly progress, staff and the volunteers
